Amphetamine App Reviews

If you’re frustrated with having to change your power save setting each and every time when your mac needs to stay awake look no further. This utility not only does the job perfectly and easily but also it has a vast array of options that suits each and every task you can imagine. A must have. Deserves 5 stars.

As has been noted in other reviews, this seems to be a terrific replacement for Caffeine (an app I have used for YEARS). As someone who has had narcotics addiction in the family, I grieve the name choice. Hope a better name might be considered.

All I can say is that it keeps my Mac awake and even my Hard Drives that I add to the preferences list. Great app!

This app is a pretty good idea and it looks a lot better than caffeine given the features, however it is incredibly buggy so you can barely take advantage of all of the features. When you click on the menu bar icon for amphetamine, the options dropdown menu pops down, but only for about half a second. It disappears immediately after no matter what I tried to do. This made it very dificult to change the settings, activate it, attempt to leave feedback at their website(that’s why I’m here instead of there, their feedback button didn’t even work), and eventually once I was finished trying to deal with it, quit the app so I could uninstall it. I have literally never had that happen with any other menu bar app, so I am very disappointed in these developers. This app has some nice vision and I could see using it once they make it usable, but at this point it really is unusably bad.

This app was great when first installed, and has awesome features that you don’t get with caffeine. But as reported by other users, the menu bar icon (drop down) immediately dissapears. So you cannot change any of the default settings. Upon first installation you can go through the preferences, but you better be ready to be stuck with those, as this drop down menu bug keeps you from making any changes.

Works as advertised. Thank you for giving it out for free. If you could ad a preference to disable the sounds it would be perfect.

Doing exactly what we expect. The options are giving us more fine tuning for specfic needs.

Keep the mac awake perfectly. Very useful

The app works well and the menubar icon looks nice. It replaced Caffeine on my Mac, especially because this app support Retina displays. ******EDIT : the feature described below was added in an update => fifth star added to my review !******** There is only one major shortcoming : activating Amphetamine requires two clicks, instead of one for Caffeine. It gets a bit irritating over time. It would be nice if users could set a default duration, and if theyd want to choose another duration, theyd right click on the icon.

Do the Job, better than caffeine with more options but in the same simplicity usage.

I love how lightweight it is while still offering such a powerful set of features. Very versatile, very useful. Many thanks to the dev!

I was working with my external SSD drive and the meeting was over. I closed my macbook and when I got home the drive was ejected automaticly during the hibernation. Cafeíne didn’t solved my problem, but this one has done it. And, what’s more, it went further. Now I can upload movies even when my mac is closed. Very nice. I strongly recommend.

UPDATE FOR 2.0 Amazing!!!! These guys heard me, now there’s an coffee cup icon! Best of best! 5 STARS. -------------------------------- Great App! I love the new low-opacity icon so I can easily see if it’s on or off. So I updated my review for 5 stars. ***** Although I still believe you can develop a new icon (I love the caffeine icon, you could try something like that). Must-have for all Mac users.

Very nice alternative to prevent your mac from sleeping. Also retina and dark mode ready, which is a huge plus. An option to activate it through a single symbol click would be nice though, once the default duration time is set.

Automatically opening the settings window every time you activate the tool is pretty annoying.

Definitively a nice and much smoother alternative to Caffeine, ready for Dark Mode & now with the option to run it as menu-bar only even better!

It just works, had some problems in the begining because it did overlook the click behavior option but now it’s perfect.

The app looks promising, however I’m having issue with indefinitely. My Mac is going to sleep like normal. Right click in the menu fails often, too. If these problems can be fixed the app is 5 stars worth.

Thanks for your last hotfix! But Amphetamine has still two bugs if running in menu mode: - If Quick Activation is activated for left click, it is not possible to open the settings again with right click (also not in combination with {alt}). - If Amphetamine is activated for a specific time, a left click on the menu icon is not deactivating the activation. I’m using OS X 10.9. Best regards to the developer!
