Amphetamine App Reviews

Perfect App

Amphetamin is perfectly doing it’s job. I would love to see more developers like William who constantly push updates that fast, that often.

Feature rich yet simple and effective. Bravo!

Runs flawlessly and offers a lot of settings if you want to automate how amphetamine runs. The newly introduced app trigger is a really smart idea.

Good

It works fine, but it produces many errors in the system log. The dev should look into this.

Pretty slick

Does what is advertises, the keyboard shortcut function is great. Would be nice to have a way to disable the pop up for how long to keep the Mac awake for, set the default to ‘indefinitely’ so using the keyboard shortcut would be a smoother process (the shortcut would just activate it and you wouldn’t have to fuss about with any extra pop ups).

Awesome Replacement for Caffeine

I have used caffeine for years as a simple way to keep my mac awake but its development has been all but forgotten. This type of functionality should be built into the OS so I’m blown away that this app isn’t more known. Great customization options, easy to use, and good looking.

Fantastsic

A great replacement for Caffeine. I love the degree of customization, that’s amazing. One little suggestion: suppress the multiple monitors warning if the user has already de-selected “Displays have separate Spaces” option (easily discoverable by reading system defaults) and only pop the message up when (or if) the user re-enables “Displays have separate Spaces.” Cheers!

Great App

Great app that works with El Cap!

Way better than Caffeine

I love this app. Does everything I require and more. I will not go back to Caffeine. Also love the customization, as there are many times when I need a different duration that it needs to remain on. Great job team, keep it up!

Keeps going into “Application Not Responding” when I try to activate it.

It worked for a while, and I thought “Great!” Now, whenever I try to activate it, it goes into “Application Not Responding” mode and I get the spinning beach ball. I have tried (repeatedly!) uninstalling it with “Clean My Mac” and re-installing, and as of Nov 23, 2015 I am using V. 2.2 with still no improvement. I shall simply have to revert to using “Caffeine”, which may be starting to show its age, but still does the job with no fuss, no muss, no dishpan hands, as the old commercials used to say!

Caffiene for the New Generation

Im going to keep this short and sweet: - I can click on it and my computer doesnt fall asleep. - As a bonus, I can click on it, and my computer will start falling asleep *after* a set amount of time. Thats cool. - Menu bar icons range from a classic coffee cup to Breaking Bad. Thats cool. - It works! - Supports dark mode. - Has all sorts of options you didnt even think anyone would bother putting in an app like this, such as triggers on running apps, power states and wifi networks, options to keep drives awake, as well as customizable hot keys. Really, the thing does exaclty what it should, is simple enough for novice users and has plenty of features for the power users. The icons look good and it seems the developer is fairly regular in updates and bug squashing. Highly recommended.

Best App to prevent sleep

Great App, light weight and looks great. They are always updating so you can tell they use and want to improve their app.

Must have app !!!

Absolutely Caffeine-killer, cdbarlow said. More powerful, easy-to-use, many more features than others apps of the kind. Used often times and still using it often. Only a little glitch: I never see the app in the Notification Center options...

problems with dropdowns staying open

With this latest version I noticed that the dropdowns, either in the menu bar, or within preferences don’t stay open for more than a fraction of a second before closing again. I can’t choose any options because of that. Is it only me?

Awesome :-)

Exactly the application i needed. Finally my Mac is no longer going to sleep :)

Great App

I have an application that runs about 20 hours. My Mac decided to go to sleep at regular intervals, and I couldn’t do anything about it … until I found Amphetamine. Great App. I love it.

Something opposite?

It’s VERY GOOD app!!! Easy as old good Caffe, but Amfe has got few small but very usefull options, like turning off only display, battery settings, etc. BUT I’m looking for something opposite: the app that can put to Sleep or Turn Off my Mac after a definied period of time.

Great!

I’ve had problem with installing Caffeine on El Capitan, so i tried this, and it works even better. Lots of options and features.

Awesome!

Looks like a very nice upgrade from Caffeine. Also, the last update is superb!

WiFi is turned off when Mac not sleeping

MBA not sleeping, but WiFi goin to sleep after 30 seconds, when app is running and lid closed. VPN, SSH, etc disconnecting without networking. InsomniaX keep WiFi connected with closed lid, but her periodically stops working and have some bugs. Please add feature to keep wireless is connected when Mac not sleeping and lid is closed with Amphetamine.

Great with a few suggestions

A good alternative to Caffeine that supports dark mode & retina displays nicely. It has a larger range of activation times which is great. One critique is that the icon for on and off (a vertical and horizontal split circle) are a bit confusing and I found myself looking at the menu bar and not remembering if it was active or inactive. Would love something a bit more obvious at first glance, perhaps utilizing a solid fill for on and empty fill for off? It would also be nice if it truly lived in the menu bar. The activation options could be put into a dropdown menu from the icon itself rather than a new window popping up in the center of the screen and taking window focus from the foreground application. What I like about caffeine is the quick activation/deactivation that doesn’t steal focus from windows. Otherwise, it’s a good keep-awake utility that is up to date for Yosemite & retina displays.
